Because the end of life is part of living
"Because care of the body means nothing without first easing the soul, Hosparus workers are not hired. They are called."
Hosparus provides care, comfort and counseling for people facing life-limiting illnesses. We offer a measure of control in situations that can seem out of control. Those who have used our services tell us there is comfort in knowing what to do and what to expect in this part of life.

Trained for hospice care. Hosparus staff and volunteers specialize in hospice care. It's what we do.
Comfort vs. cure. Hosparus affirms life and promotes quality of life through all phases of an illness. Our care provides comfort rather than cure. Hosparus neither prolongs life nor hastens death. We provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to people with life-limiting illness and their families. We help our patients maintain quality of life and live their days to the fullest. We emphasize symptom management and palliative care and support for the entire family.
Respect. The end of life is a special time with special needs. We understand the emotions surrounding a progressive illness and can help put them in perspective. Fear, anger, and grief are normal responses. We respect each person’s living and dying experiences. We enter into these experiences with our patients and families, providing support, understanding and guidance. We empower patients and families through this most significant time. A team of sensitive, skilled professionals and volunteers tailors its services to meet the needs of each individual patient and family.
Empowerment. Hosparus supports the rights of patient/families to make decisions about life support and life-sustaining medical interventions. While respecting personal philosophical beliefs, Hosparus does not participate or assist in implementation of any actions related to suicide and/or euthanasia.
Care is supervised by a physician. Each patient is admitted to hospice care with a physician's order. Upon admission, the patient's primary-care physician continues to supervise the patient's care. More information is available on the role of the attending physician.
Professional staff. All medical care prescribed by physicians is carefully followed. Professional bereavement counselors, certified nursing assistants, chaplains, medical directors, nurses, social workers, volunteers and other therapists are members of the Hosparus interdisciplinary team. We adapt care plans to meet the changing needs and decisions of each patient and family. We respect the rights, privacy and confidentiality of our patients and families.
Types of care. Hosparus offers the following types of care.
- Home care in the patient's home, or in a home-like setting.
- Long-term care in facilities such as nursing homes and assisted-living facilities that contract with Hosparus.
- Inpatient care in our hospital units with private patient rooms.
- Pediatric care for infants, children and teens with life-limiting illnesses.
- Palliative care consultation for hospice and non-hospice patients. We can help with pain and symptom management.
- Bereavement counseling, classes and programs for adults and children.
- Complementary therapies such as massage and music therapy from our trained staff and volunteers.
After-hours care. Hosparus team members typically provide care to patients and families during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.). After hours, patients and families can also call us for assistance. When an emergency situation cannot be resolved on the telephone, a Hosparus professional will visit the patient.
