Muhammad Ali Center offers venue to remember victims of violent death
Christopher 2X to deliver opening message during Ceremony of Hope; artwork on display starting March 10

Hope and healing. You are invited to a community celebration of life remembering those who have suffered a violent death.
According a recent article in The Courier-Journal, last year there were 54 homicides in Jefferson County. Countless others lost their lives to violent tragedies. Long after the crime scene tape is removed and the camera crews leave the scene, those close to the victims are left to deal with the emotional aftermath of losing someone they love to violence.
The Hosparus Grief Counseling Center will host "Hope and Healing," a program to remember those who have died a violent death, from 4 to 6:15 p.m., Sunday, March 18 at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 North Sixth St. Here are schedule details:
4 to 5:30 p.m. Healing Space
Individuals, families and children are invited to come to the Healing Space (any time from 4 to 5:30 p.m.), where they will have an opportunity to create a memorial in honor of the person who died. Materials will be provided. Counselors and trained volunteers will be available to help. Participants are invited to bring a picture and/or mementos of the person(s) who died to be included in a memorial display during the Ceremony of Hope.
5:45 to 6:15 p.m. Ceremony of Hope
The memorials made during the Healing Space time will be displayed, and a ceremony of hope with
readings and music will take place to honor and celebrate the lives of the people being remembered.
To RSVP, contact the Hosparus Grief Counseling Center at 456-5451.
From Saturday, March 10, through Sunday, March 18, artwork created by last year's "Hope & Healing" attendees will be on display at the Center.
Hosparus Grief Counseling Center presents 'Moving and Breathing through Grief'
Six-week program combines counseling and gentle yoga practices - CLASS IS FULL

Yoga workshop. Hosparus offers a wide range of services to help individuals and families through the grieving process.
Grief, loss and change create stress in our bodies. Some of the physiological manifestations of grief include nervousness, restlessness, sleeplessness, physical and emotional tension, headaches, fatigue, exhaustion, crying, digestive upsets, pounding heart and feelings of emptiness, according to bereavement professionals at the Hosparus Grief Counseling Center.
The Grief Counseling Center and local certified yoga instructors will team up to offer "Moving and Breathing through Grief," 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, Feb. 20 through March 26 at the Center, 3526 Ephraim McDowell Drive in Louisville.
The group is offered at no charge to Hosparus families following a death; for others, the fee is $60, with financial assistance possible.
To pre-register (required), call (502) 456-5451.
This six-week program explores grief through mind and body. A grief counselor will begin each session with a reading and discussion about grief. Trained yoga instructors will then lead participants through gentle yoga movements and breathing practices intended to calm, heal and allow the body to express feelings related to grief. Those who attend need to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. Hosparus will provide chairs for those with physical limitations.
