Hospice 'superstar' to present March 17 program
A book signing will follow presentation at the Crowne Plaza Hotel

Author and teacher. David Casarett, a physician, specializes in end-of-life care.
Dr. David Casarett presents Discovering possibility and opportunity at the end-of-life, 8 a.m., March 17 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 830 Phillips Lane, Louisville. Casarett will sign his new book, Last Acts, immediately following the 60-minute presentation and question-and-answer session. To RSVP, call (502) 719-8912 or e-mail edcoord@hosparus.org by Friday, March 13. Casarett’s presentation is part of his national speaking tour to benefit the National Hospice Foundation.
What would you do if you only had a few days to live? A few hours? A few minutes? And what should you do? How can you make the best possible use of whatever time you have left? What is the right answer for each of us?
Casarett’s book, Last Acts, explores these and many other questions as he considers how we use our time when that time is limited. In the process, he shares the compelling stories of many of the patients he’s cared for in 10 years as a hospice and palliative care physician. Last Acts draws on the author's clinical experiences to help patients make the most of the time that they have. It will also help families and loved ones understand why patients sometimes make choices that can seem baffling and perplexing.
Overall, Last Acts paints a picture of the ways that people choose to spend their time and helps patients, family members and loved ones to better understand which choice is the right one for them.
Casarett is a physician, researcher and tenured associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he specializes in end-of-life care. He is a respected researcher whose studies have enrolled more than 4,000 dying patients and families.
