Hosparus receives $500,000 Horseshoe Foundation grant for capital expansion in Southern Indiana
Hosparus plans to build new site in New Albany
(Nov. 23, 2010) - Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County announced today that it will award Hosparus a $500,000 grant to go toward building a new location for the organization's Southern Indiana operations.

New facility rendering. With a generous grant from the Horseshoe Foundation, Hosparus will build a hospice service building in New Albany, Ind.
The new location, most likely on Hausfeldt Lane in New Albany, will house a new 12,000-square-foot office to provide adequate work spaces, offices and a variety of group meeting spaces for staff, patient/family needs and community uses. Hosparus also will have designated space for the children and adult bereavement programs and the pediatric hospice program, Kourageous Kids.
"The Horseshoe Foundation grant offers us a wonderful start toward a $2 million investment to purchase land in Floyd County and build our new Southern Indiana location," said Phil Marshall, president and chief executive officer at Hosparus. "We plan to break ground in the fall of 2011."

Marshall added, "Capital expansion of this nature is critical to the future of hospice care in our region. As we are serving more patients than ever before in our history, we need to accommodate for this unprecedented growth by building a centrally located Southern Indiana facility."

Some 15 years ago, Hosparus moved to its current location at 624 E. Market St. in New Albany. At that time, the organization served about 20 Southern Indiana patients per day; today that number exceeds more than 100 daily. This mirrors the growth that the Hosparus organization has experienced in recent years as it serves 800 patients daily across 33 counties and more than 5,000 patients annually.
Mark Seabrook, board president of Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County, said, "Hosparus is a great organization which provides an important service to so many Floyd County families."
New Albany's mayor, Doug England, who is vice president of the Horseshoe Foundation board, noted, "Hosparus allows families to share quality time at the end of life. We are delighted they are building this wonderful facility in our community to serve southern Indiana."
For more than 30 years, Hosparus, a fully accredited non-profit hospice organization, has provided care, comfort and counseling for people facing life-limiting illnesses in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
