Along with an award in 2005, this is the third consecutive year for Hosparus to receive the Best Place to Work distinction in Kentucky in the large-employer category. Created in 2005, the Kentucky awards program is a project of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Society of Human Resource Management Council and the Best Companies Group.

The selection process, managed by Best Companies Group, is based on assessment of a company's employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey. This statewide survey and awards program identifies, recognizes and honors the best places of employment in Kentucky, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses.

The Kentucky Chamber will announce Best Places to Work rankings at its Eighth Annual Awards banquet on Thursday, April 19 at the Galt House in Louisville.

"This award serves as a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing the excellent care, comfort and counseling the community has come to expect from Hosparus," says Karen Hamilton, senior vice president/human resources, Hosparus. "Our staff members' dedication to patients and their families facing the end of life is second to none."

Hosparus purchases 1000 Building for $4.45 million

Non-profit hospice organization to use space for cost-effective capital expansion

(Dec. 22, 2011) - Hosparus announced today it purchased the 1000 Building, located at 6200 Dutchmans Lane in Louisville, for $4.45 million from Dahlem Enterprises, Inc. Prior to the sale, Hosparus leased 13,482 square feet out of the total 43,178 square feet (excluding hallways and common areas) at the site.

According to Hosparus President and Chief Executive Officer Phil Marshall, "We have met with the current long-term tenants, and they are interested in staying and are secure in their arrangements. This helps us a lot in supporting the cost of the new building; the purchase also saves us significant dollars in the long run. Our intent in this strategic move is to continue to be good stewards of our significant ongoing community support."

Marshall added: "This move helps us secure office space over the next 20 years, allowing us to expand and grow our mission of improving the quality of life for our patients and their families. We will pick up an additional 30,000 square feet for less than half of the cost (about $9 million) to build additional structures/facilities at our Louisville campus located at 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive. Based on census growth, we will re-assess the need for new construction at the Ephraim McDowell site. The property is zoned for construction.”

Hosparus will continue to move forward with additional capital expansion plans, such as a new site for its southern Indiana operations on Hausfeldt Lane in New Albany, Ind. Hosparus plans to break ground at the southern Indiana location in late 2012.

For more than 30 years, Hosparus, a fully accredited non-profit hospice organization, has provided care, comfort and counseling for people facing life-limiting illnesses in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Hosparus cares for more than 5,000 patients and their families each year.
